Roundup: Hurricane-related waived change fees; JetBlue auctions flights on eBay; ultra-short-haul air service coming to SoCal

| Hurricane Ike has weakened to a Category 2. Assistant Los Angeles Times Travel editor Jane Engle reminds travelers that in order to take advantage of the waived change fees that airlines offer, you often need to rebook within a few days. Here’s the list of airlines and their policies. Virgin America is also waiving their change fees for certain inconvenienced passengers.

California | Miwok Airways is bringing ultra-short-haul airline service to Southern California this fall. Imagine, on-demand flights for economy seat prices. All you have to do is be OK taking a prop plane (pictured). There will be dozens of airports between San Diego and Oxnard. JetBlue has flights up for auction on eBay | Their new eBay store features all sorts of flights and packages. I checked out the “Jet from Southern California” category and found these flights (Monday morning):

> JetBlue Roundtrip Flights for Two: Burbank-New York—$305
37 bids and 4 days, 9 hours left in the auction. Does not include $45 for taxes and fees.

> JetBlue Roundtrip Flights for One: Burbank-New York—$202.50
21 bids and 4 days, 9 hours left in the auction. Does not include $21 for taxes and fees.

>JetBlue Roundtrip Flights for Two: Long Beach-Las Vegas—$112.51
11 bids and 2 days, 6 hours left in the auction. Does not include $41 for taxes and fees.

    My husband (Justin) and I leave on September 30th to backpack to various countries around the world for a year or so.
