For those who want some spills to go with their thrills, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom will add a skateboard park this summer featuring a slalom course, jumps and ramps.
Timed to coincide with the opening of the new Tony Hawk Big Spin rotating roller coaster, the Fuzion Zone skate park will be included with the price of admission as part of an “experiential marketing” campaign between the Vallejo amusement park-marine park-zoo and Emeryville scooter-skateboard maker NextSport.
For the uninitiated, Fuzion combines the wide, concave deck, polyurethane wheels and articulated rear axle of a skateboard with the T-shaped handlebar of a scooter.
Riders wearing helmets and safety pads will be able to test-drive Fuzion scooter-skateboards on the 50-by-70-foot skate park for up to 15 minutes.
Throughout the year, professional riders will make appearances in a demonstration area. (Hat tip to Screamscape.)
Do roller coasters and skateboards really go together?
