Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction nominees announced

The 2009 induction nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, in Cleveland, Ohio, have been announced. Get the full scoop in the Associated Press article “Run-D.M.C., Metallica nominated for Rock Hall” and in the Los Angeles Times’ music blog Soundboard piece “Metallica, Run-DMC vying for Rock Hall of Fame.” Besides the two biggies mentioned in both titles, other nominees for the renowned rock attraction are Jeff Beck, Chic, Wanda Jackson, Little Anthony and the Imperials, the Stooges, War and Bobby Womack.

Which five artists and/or bands are ultimately chosen will be announced in January 2009, and the induction ceremony is planned for April 4, 2009, at Public Hall in Cleveland. Start thinking about a springtime trip to Cleveland (it’s a hot dining city, if you haven’t heard) because, for the first time, the public will be invited to purchase seats for the event, after the opportunity has been offered to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members.

In addition, the site will play host to a number of events in the week leading up to the ceremony. To receive updates on ticket availability and events, sign up for the museum’s e-newsletter.

These ceremonies are not boring award shows, but colorful events promising unique performances. According to the venue website, memorable moments in the 23 years the ceremony has thus far run have included “when Mick Jagger, Tina Turner, Bob Dylan, members of the Beach Boys and Bruce Springsteen, among others, shared the same stage, or when Santana performed ‘Black Magic Woman’ with ex-Fleetwood Mac member Peter Green, the song’s composer and original performer.”
