Riverside, CA: weekender package at historic Mission Inn

Mission Inn Hotel & Spa, Riverside, California

Riverside, California, may not get a place in too many tourism brochures, but if you take the time to stop in for a good look, it has a fascinating history, most noticeable in its downtown focal point, the Mission Inn hotel and spa. As Deborah Schoch wrote recently in the Los Angeles Times blog Street Scenes, the hotel “rises like a mirage … a castle in the desert, an entire city block cast in the dreamy style of Spanish palaces and Gothic cathedrals.”

In 1876, the Mission Inn humbly began, and today it’s a 239-room point of pride for the city. It’s been drawing tourists for over a century, so I guess it should come as no surprise that it knows how to put together a good deal.

Deal: The “Get Out of Town” package is definitely worth considering for a couple of days away. Starting at $265 per night (pre-tax), the deal includes your room, a $75 resort gift card (valid in the resort’s restaurants or spa), a $50 Chevron gas card, free valet parking, champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries upon arrival. Rooms without all of the aforementioned perks are regularly $215 and up per night (pre-tax).

When: Now through Sept. 31, 2008.

Connect/disconnect: Wi-Fi access in your room costs $9.95 per day.
