The 40th anniversary of the “Summer of Love” has spawned a lot of travel deals, especially in San Francisco, where Mayor Gavin Newsom made an official proclamation in honor of the anniversary and a free mega-concert will take place in Golden Gate Park from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on September 2nd, 2007. But you can also find offbeat hotel packages celebrating the hippie era as far away from the Bay as Montreal, Quebec.
Deal: The Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth is offering an exclusive “Give Peace a Chance” package that lets you stay in Suite No. 1742, where John Lennon and Yoko Ono staged their infamous bed-in during the summer of 1969. The package includes a set of look-alike pajamas, one of the same breakfast and dinner menus ordered by the iconic couple, a grab-bag of souvenirs and a limo ride from the airport. How much will all this cost? A mere C$1969 (approximately US$1862) per couple, per night, including all taxes and gratuities.
When: This offer is available through December 31st, 2007 (subject to availability).
Caveat: You must book this special package by calling the hotel directly; it is not available online.
Why Go: It’s a whimsical idea for a cool summer escape to an ultra-chic Canadian city.
Why Not: You can book the hotel’s John & Yoko Getaway package, which includes a night’s accommodations in the same suite, plus breakfast in bed for two, from just C$600 (approximately US$567) per couple, per night. So, do you really need all the souvenirs and the limo ride from the airport?
Connect: Unlike in the 1960s, high-speed Internet access is now available in all guest rooms (a surcharge applies).
Contact: Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth, 011 +1 (514) 861-3511
