Yes, hotel rooms in Mexico are still on sale, and that includes the luxury ones, many of which are now available for more moderate prices. Case in point: The Four Seasons resort in Punta Mita is offering an unusual “Experience More” package that translates to rooms for around $220 a night this summer.
Deal: At the 173-room Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR), you can get a $1,234 credit for every stay of four consecutive nights. And get this — you can apply this to any resort charges, including your room.
Tested: Nightly accommodations rates start at $415 per night (pre-tax) from now through Sept. 30, and at $545 from Oct. 1 to Nov. 18 and Nov. 28 to Dec. 21, 2009.
A four-night stay I tested in mid-July came to $1,660 pre-tax, but a significantly more $2,125 total. They get you with the taxes and resort fees. Still, apply that $1,234 credit at the check-out desk at the end of your stay, and your four nights at a Four Seasons amounts to $891, or $223 per night.
Why go: It’s turtle-nesting season on beaches in the area. Plus, the resort property itself will keep you plenty occupied, with its three pool areas, four restaurants, two golf courses, on-site spa and tennis courts. Some of the complimentary services and amenities included in every stay are a fitness center, daily fitness classes, full-day children’s program, meals for kids ages 4 and younger, valet parking, and a tequila-tasting and lecture.
When: The offer is good now through Dec. 21, 2009.

[For the record: The original post noted Puerto Vallarta's airport code as PJZ. The code is actually PVR, and the error has been corrected above.]
