The Post Ranch Inn, the definition of high-end green luxury, closed Sunday because of the fires—though staff and guests weren’t asked to evacuate. We reported that the inn wouldn’t open until Saturday, but it reopened today — minus any guests.
General Manager Dan Priano clarified that the inn is open but guests expected today had canceled because of the uncertainty of the situation. The fires represent an unusual opportunity for intrepid travelers — many room vacancies during the peak summer season when the resort often is fully occupied. Smoke had cleared as of today, Priano said.
The inn, where rooms run $550 to $2,185 per night, has no guests booked until 4 p.m. check-in Saturday. The Sierra Mar restaurant at the hotel plans to reopen Saturday afternoon, as well.
Highway 1 to the south of the inn remained closed today, but travelers are able to detour from the coast by taking the 101 Freeway to Highway 68 west at Salinas to Highway 1 south and reaching the resort from the north.

I am desperate to find any information on the status of the Big Sur Inn. I can find nothing, except the fire area maps, which seem to put the fire right on the Inn. Could anyone email me information? MUCH appreciated, as the Inn is very dear to me.

Sam:
I have been online in all of the blogs,
and so far, I think, the BIG SUR INN
so far okay… As is, Henry’s place, Deetjens’
and Nepenthe.
However, things could change at any
second.
the Inn is very dear to us also.

This is sad, My beloved Big Sur. But no surprise. I believe people who lived in this area thought that it was fire proof. The dead brush around here was never cleared up.

Great of them to reopen the Inn ahead of schedule. With the Inn in great form again I’m sure many guest will be having bookings for their trip.
