For a few days in early June, the skies above a Riverside County reservoir will be awash in color. The Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival, at Lake Skinner Recreation Area in Winchester, will feature hot-air balloon shows and rides, wine-tastings, a wine and food pairing event, musical entertainment, kids’ activities and more.
Running June 5-7, the festival will open at 6 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday so that visitors can watch the early-morning balloons, which generally launch by 6:30 a.m. and return by 8:30 a.m. On Friday night, the Balloon Glow draws crowds watching around 12 balloon pilots get their hot-air balloons dancing to live musical rhythms.
If you’re eager to get your own feet off the ground, one-hour balloon flights are available on Saturday and Sunday; they cost $200 per person and can be arranged through A Grape Escape Balloon Adventure.
Wine tastings will be hosted by representatives from over 20 wineries from Temecula Valley and other parts of Southern California.
When: Friday, June 5, to Sunday, June 7, 2009. See event website for times.
Cost: Festival admittance costs $15-$22 per adult per day, and rates for kids range from free to $5 per day, depending on the day and age. Two-day packages (for Sat-Sun) cost $30 per adult. Parking is $5 per car.
Accommodations: Campsites at Lake Skinner Recreation Area are sold out for the festival dates, according to the event website, but festival organizers have provided links to other camping options. In addition, there are number of hotels within driving distance.

Great Music too - Friday Lonestar, Chuck Wicks and James Otto, Saturday has Starship with Mickey Thomas, Patty Smyth and Scandal and Sugar Ray. Sunday features Survivor and a Freestyle Motocross Show.
Plus a dozen acts on the wine stage and for warm up. One highlight of the warm up acts is Jupiter Rising on Saturday.
Wine & Food Pairing is also available still but sells out. This has executive chefs preparing and sharing their recipes on site … then pairing with award-winning wines.
