Pink-slip travel: Rabbit Hill Inn offers monthly getaways to unemployed

Rabbit Hill Inn - Porch

We can’t expect the newly unemployed to travel. Some will want to use the free time to take a break before heading into a job search, while others will be scrounging their dollars and laughing at the thought of using them for a holiday — even if they wished they could. If you (or a spouse) have been unemployed for more than six months and also inclined to spend miles or the cost of an airline ticket to get to northern Vermont, don’t hesitate in signing up for Rabbit Hill Inn’s Pink-Slip Getaway Giveaway.

Innkeepers Leslie and Brian Mulcahy can relate to hard times. It’s what led them to the Rabbit Hill Inn. In response to what they’re calling the unemployment epidemic, they are giving away six two-night getaways, one each month from April through July, and in November and December.

Contest: In one page or less, send a letter or e-mail explaining your story. The deadline is June 1, 2009. Each winner will get a two-night getaway, including accommodations, a candlelight dinner and a rabbit’s foot for “good old-fashioned luck.”

Why should you bother? The Rabbit Hill Inn is a four-diamond AAA-rated inn that was also listed as one of the “1,000 places to see before you die.” Not enough? This romantic hideaway was recently included in the Top 12 inns worldwide in the annual “Best of BedandBreakfast.com Awards” for 2008-2009.
