Pinball (and L.A. Laker Girls) at autism fundraiser this weekend

Pinball Pool at the Pinball Hall of Fame in Las Vegas

Pinball may not have much of a life these days outside the occasional dive bar or rare attraction like the Pinball Hall of Fame in Las Vegas. But this game with a special place in the heart of American pop culture is at center stage this weekend, for a good cause, at the Celebrity Pinball Tournament & Arcade Game Show 2008. Access Hollywood’s Tony Potts is going to be there, as will the L.A. Laker Girls.

So, first things first: The Laker Girls will be at the event today from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. They’ll be ready to pose with you for photos and sign their autographs.

Now, about the pinball: Hundreds of machines will be available for guests to play. You can leave the coins at home, as pinball machines will be on “free play” mode. Scheduled activities include raffles, an auction and a pinball tournament in which the winner will receive his or her own pinball machine or $1,000 in cash. If you could use a little fuel for this nostalgia-inspiring function, fear not — there will be food and booze available for purchase.

Besides the pinball machines, which will include the apparently rare 1977 Williams Lucky 7, other arcade games will be available for playing, including Asteroids, Centipede and one of my erstwhile personal favorites, Donkey Kong.

When: Today and Saturday, noon-midnight; Sunday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Where: Hollywood Park in Inglewood, California

Cost: Friday day pass: $30/$20 per adult/child; Saturday day pass: $35/$20; Sunday day pass: $25/$20; weekend pass: $60/$30.

Why: It’s a benefit for Talk About Curing Autism (TACA), a not-for-profit organization providing support and resources for families affected by autism.
