Good morning travelers! Did you see the Perseid meteor shower this morning?
How far away from your home did you have to go to get away from the city lights?
Were any of you able to see one meteor per minute?
How long did the meteor showers last in your area?
If you saw the Perseids, I hope you’ll share your photos and videos on Your Scene.
Here are some comments that we got overnight from readers watching the meteor shower:
“I went outside to look at it and what can I say, it is magical. I keep going outside and staring straight up at the sky. I made a dozen wishes already. I hope one comes true LOL. The sky is so clear it looks like the stars are right in front of me.” — Sarah Jackson
“I’m across the river from Philadelphia, I watched from 3:00 to 3:30 and I counted 15; too much light pollution.” — leon of moorestown nj
“I saw two, exactly northeast — which is pretty good considering that I live in the suburbs of L.A. (SG Valley) 2 in about 30 minutes of watching.” — Jeremy
“Didn’t see anything out here in La Puente.” — Joy
Tell us about your experience.

I live in Antigua and in the space of one hour I must have seen about 20. Some really close and some far away, what a beautiful night!!

What was the star at the southern end of the meteor showers that suddenly was one of the brightest in the sky and then faded back into the darkness? This was about 3:00 to 3:15 am EDT and roughly the same distance above the horizon as Cassiopea.

Hi!!
Pomona, California
We live on the highest mountain within 30 miles, so we went to our backyard and lounged on patio chairs.
It was truly magical.
We started gazing around 1 am.
By 2 am, the meteors were numbering one every two minutes.
The frequency increased as the minutes passed, but we were too tired to continue. We turned in at 2 am. I’m sure there were much more after we hit the sack.
We’re glad we stayed up for it.

We were watching the skies lastnight from 1 am, and I have to say…the stars were shining and blinking. It was such a beautiful night. We counted about 33 shooting stars for a short period of time. I live in Northern Canada. We were waiting up for the Perseid meteor shower.

My college age daughter had a dozen or so friends over to watch the shower. Living “in the country”, 10 miles east of Lexington, KY, we only had to escape as far as the back or our small farm. With windows open, hearing the excitement in their voices, I got out of bed at 1:30 and joined them until about 2:15. I saw maybe 6 - 8 in that time frame. They claimed to have witnessed 2 dozen or more. Hope next year is just as spectacular!

I drove local to rowland heights where i knew there was an extremely dark street. I saw three in a period of about 15 to 20 minutes. The first two were small almost back to back. I had to wait a little for the last one, but it was so worth it! I didn’t see much after that so i turned in, but something tells me i should’ve stayed…

I live in Wheeling, WV and watched from 2:30 to 4:30. Saw only 18 in that time, but it was worth it.

Viewed at 4:00am EST from Long Island City, NY. My son and I saw spent only 20 minutes outside because it was very chilly. Saw 5 meteors. All were very bright. Can imagine the viewing from city light absent locations.

I live in northern Virginia. I saw about 40 from 3:30-5:30. There were some really big ones that really made the show amazing!

I was in Munds Park, AZ, and was up early because the clouds had cleared from recent storms, around midnight, and saw 9 in 30 minutes. Most were from the radiant, a few from the west and north, loved it! got up at 4 a.m., but all i got was clouds and a visit from a skunk in the neighborhood. Will try again tonight from Phoenix.

I live in the East Bay, California. There’s a lot of light pollution around here but we went to a park really high up around 3am. We were able to catch one every two minutes or so for abour 15-20 minutes before all the fog started to come in. Hopefully, next time he sky will be much more clear!

I live in Riverside California, but my boyfriend and I drove all the way out to Joshua Tree to see Perseid. It was pitch black outside, the sky was clear and it was warm out. We watched from 3am to 5:30am and we saw so may meteors that we lost count. It was truly spectacular! We’ve found our new spot to watch from. I highly recommend that location for anyone that would like to see Perseid.

We watched from Humboldt Redwoods State Park and saw 46 meteors between 1:30 and 3 am. About a dozen had long tails that lingered in the sky for a couple seconds.

At first I was a little alarmed because I hadn’t read about the meteor showers. I thought it was strange that there was lightning in the sky without rain, thunder or firecracker sounds. It was cloudy so I just saw intermittant flashes in one portion of the sky here in L.A.
