Orbitz deals for Southwest travel

Tombstone, Arizona

I love the Southwest in the springtime and am gleaning inspiration for my trip wish list from recent articles on the region’s draws. Dive into the healing vortexes of Sedona, dine five-star style near Phoenix, gaze down grand canyons, see petroglyphs and pagodas in New Mexico. It’s all there, and planning a short visit doesn’t have to cost a lot, especially with the help of this sale:

Deal: Orbitz’s current Deal-O-Rama sale features hotels in the Southwest U.S. Do a search for discounted hotels at your intended destination and then save an additional 10% with the promotion code ‘DEALOHOTEL.’ If you book a flight-and-hotel package (three-night minimum),  you can take $75 off with code ‘DEALOVACA.’ Here are a few sample hotel deals:

* Scottsdale, Ariz.: At Xona Resort Suites, discounted rooms start at $57 per night. This rate was found for a stay May 4-7. Note, though, that this is pre-tax and does not include the resort fee ($15 per day). With all of that, and then the additional 10% discount, the total is $218 for a three-night stay.

* Tombstone, Ariz.: A two-night stay at the Best Western Lookout Lodge here comes to $207 total, after taxes and application of 10% discount. That’s just a tad less than the $212 I would pay with a seven-day advance purchase through the hotel directly, but substantially less than the hotel’s flexible rate of $241.

* Santa Fe, New Mexico: A handful of hotels here are offering attractive discounts, including the Lodge at Santa Fe. Using the 10% coupon code on an already discounted two-night stay at the end of April came to $209 after taxes. This was at least $42 less than I’d pay on the “best rates guaranteed” selection for the same dates through the hotel’s reservation system.

When: Book by April 15 for travel between now and July 15, 2009.
