Omni San Diego Hotel offers half-off for the holidays

San Diego will see a steady stream of festive events leading up to the holidays, including the Thanksgiving Dixieland Jazz Festival (Nov. 26-30), Balboa Park December Nights (Dec. 5-6) and Port of San Diego Bay Parade of Lights (Dec. 14 and 21).

But whether you event-hop or not, San Diego is never a bad bet for a getaway, and while downtown may not be the best home base for tranquility-seekers or the beach-minded, it can be a lively, convenient locale if you like to eat and shop during the day and play at night. For high-end digs at a moderate price, have a look at this deal from Omni San Diego Hotel. It’s next to the Convention Center and connected to Petco Park.

Deal: The “Half Price for the Holidays Package” offers, for $159 per night (pre-tax), accommodations, complementary valet parking (normally $30 per night), complementary Starbucks coffee at the hotel’s espresso bar and coupons for nearby shops and restaurants in the Gaslamp Quarter.

When: Valid for stays Nov. 20, 2008, to Jan. 4, 2009.

Tested: According to a spokesperson for the hotel, this package has been selling well, and some weekends already are sold out because of holiday parties. If you’re flexible on dates and don’t find availability at first, keep trying. For weekends, I found availability Nov. 27-30 (Thanksgiving weekend), Dec. 19-21 and Dec. 26-28, 2008.
