Cheapflights.com uses airport info to predict an Obama win

Democrat Barack Obama of Illinois and Republican John McCain of Arizona at their second presidential debate at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn. Oct. 7, 2008

Obama, McCain, McCain, Obama — who will win the presidential election when the debate results are so close to a tie? There are actually 11 swing states that may hold the future of the rest of the presidential race. Cheapflights.com has culled clues from airports in these swing states to determine that Barack Obama will become our next president. Sure, this isn’t exactly scientific, but let’s see what these folks have to say and monitor if their prediction comes true.

Swing states leaning Republican? FIVE

Cheapflights.com predicts Florida, Nevada, and Missouri will stand behind John McCain and vote Republican. They also add Virginia to the list because Norfolk International (ORF) has proven longtime military support including a USO/ASYMCA lounge for active-duty personnel and a military visitor information center. They also have discounts at shops for service members.

Indiana makes this list as well because the Indianapolis International Airport (IND) has an Indy 500 museum, Indianapolis 500 Grill and clothing store. The McCains are big fans of the Indy 500, so Cheapflights thinks Indiana voters will raise the checkered flag for him in November.

Swing states leaning Democratic? SIX
Michigan, New Mexico, Ohio and Pennsylvania make the Democrat-leaning list from Cheapflights. In addition, Colorado gets added because there is a 2 megawatt solar-photovoltaic energy system at the Denver International Airport (DIA) generating more than 3 million kilowatt hours of clean electricity annually.

Obama leans green, so Colorado is bound to prefer this candidate. They also predict New Hampshire to vote blue because Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT) has free airport-wide Wi-Fi and a new cellphone waiting lot for picking up arriving passengers. Obama is the more computer-savvy candidate so they predict New Hampshire will go with him.
