Northern California: Mansion vs. hotel
Are you planning on a late summer road trip to San Francisco or Monterey? If so, take a side trip to San Jose and get a taste for the good life. The Dolce Hayes Mansion has slashed prices 40% for travelers looking for a weekend escape.
Deal: We found this $99/night on Travelzoo. All you have to do is mention rate code “TVLZ” to get the steep discount at this once private estate. When I checked, AAA discount rates for a Saturday in July were $170/night pre-tax, so $99/night is definitely a substantial savings.
When: Book by July 20 for Friday-Sunday night stays through Sept. 4, 2007.
Why Go: Despite the loyalty points, staying at hotel chains is getting old. Going on vacation does not mean you’re supposed to recognize the modern pastel wall prints, let alone be sick of the bathroom soaps.
Why Not: San Jose as a destination has more of a business trip connotation than a weekend getaway.
Caveat: There are some black out dates, including July 17-19, 30-31; August 1-2, 2007.

i stayed here last summer during the same sale…
its a good deal, especially with the free breakfast theygive you here…but the good life its not…the room is atypical hotel room as they added a seperate building form the actual mansion…the add leads you to think you will actually stay in the mansion–you dont ….the pool area is nice (nothing amazing just a clean simple pool)and its a very quiet area so it is a nice getaway….
