Did you see the movie “National Treasure“? You know that scene where Nicolas Cage kidnaps the president in the underground basement at Mount Vernon? Well you can take a tour of George Washington’s basement yourself. Mount Vernon is offering tours of the “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” basement on weekends through mid-February. And just think, you won’t have to scuba dive or sneak your way in.
Deal: There is no extra cost to take the “Book of Secrets” tour. It is included in the Mount Vernon admission price, $13 adults, $6 kids 6-11. Although the basement tour isn’t offered on Feb. 18, admission that day is free to all visitors as part of celebrating George Washington’s 276th birthday.
When: Weekends through Feb. 10, 2008, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
Contact: Mount Vernon, (703) 780-2000
