Montana: Fall Glacier National Park hotel deals

St. Mary Lodge & Resort photo galleryIf you can’t get away for Labor Day weekend, it’s not too late for an early autumn visit later next month to a national park high in the mountains, whether the Sierra Nevadas or the Rockies. At the east entrance to Glacier National Park, for example, the historic St. Mary Lodge & Resort, which stands at the start of the spectacular Going-to-the-Sun Road, is offering special deals for stays until the end of September.

Deal: Regular rates for accommodations, from lodge rooms to two-story loft cabins, range from $119 to $450 per night, excluding taxes and fees. The Hiker’s Special gets you a West Lodge room with two queen beds and two sack lunches plus bottled water for $155/night, only $6 more than the regular rate. The B&B package at the Great Bear Lodge gets you a room plus a $25 breakfast voucher for $190/night per double, which is $35 less than usual. Last, the Huckleberry Hideaway ($250/night) lets you stay in the newly remodeled Sun Cabin, then throws in two free huckleberry drinks or desserts too.

Would you recommend this lodge or another one inside the park? Post your 2 cents in the Comments.

When: These special offers are valid (subject to availability) through September 30, 2007.

Caveat: The Hiker’s Special is only a deal for rooms with two queen beds, not one (the latter is regularly $129/night).

Why Go: One of the resort’s builders and ex-owners, Margaret Black, still spends every summer here (and she’s 104 years old, so that’s an inspiring endorsement).

Why Not: This is not the cheapest lodging in the park. Peruse your other options at Glacier Park Inc. Also, remember that the park’s Going-to-the-Sun shuttle service ends for the season on September 3.

Disconnect: The lodge and resort do not offer in-room Internet access for guests.
