Michael Jackson memorial: MTA to detour bus lines

The MTA is rerouting dozens of bus lines in downtown Los Angeles because of street closures for the Michael Jackson memorial at Staples Center, scheduled at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 7.  Subway lines may also be affected.

Passengers who usually get on or off buses within the downtown area bounded by the following streets will have to walk out to those main streets to board a bus on Tuesday, the MTA said: 5th/6th streets,  Alvarado Street, Washington Boulevard and Spring/Main streets.

If you ride the Metro Blue Line, the MTA said in a news release, there is a chance that the Pico Station could be closed or that service may be suspended north of the Metro Blue Line Grand Station for unspecified periods of time Tuesday.

“We’re going to do our best to provide transit services downtown on July 7, but the public should be prepared for delays as we work through this difficult traffic situation,” said MTA spokesman Dave Sotero.

All planned detours are subject to change. If you have questions about your schedule, check the MTA website or call (800) COMMUTE, or (800) 266-6883.
