Mexico & Caribbean: two nights free at Club Med

The stretch between Thanksgiving in November and Presidents Day in February is, for many Americans, one full of family, food, shopping, stress and not a whole lot of timeout time. If you think a week’s vacation away from it all might be the perfect coping mechanism — or, er, gift — to give yourself, have a look at this wintertime deal from Club Med.

Deal: Book seven nights at a participating Club Med resort and receive two of those nights free. The family-oriented properties offering this deal include resorts in Cancun and Ixtapa in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe and Martinique. If you’re a single traveler, or traveling with friends or your partner, you might be more interested in a stay at the non-family-focused resorts in Turks and Caicos, Bora Bora or the Bahamas.

Planning a trip for early December, I looked at seven nights at Ixtapa Pacific, Mexico, under this deal, and my total for two adults and a toddler was $2,363 (including taxes); leaving the toddler at home would decrease the price by $319. This rate includes accommodations, food all day, beverages (including most alcohol), a range of leisure and sport activities and membership fees (which are deducted if you’re already a Club Med member). Basically, you’re looking at $146 per adult per day.

This deal will appeal most to those who crave a resort-centered getaway, where you spend a good chunk of time on the grounds, eating, lounging and playing (sailing, kayaking and the flying trapeze are among the offered activities). But even if you’re a die-hard Club Med fan, do some research on your resort of interest, via TripAdvisor, VirtualTourist and other sites with traveler-written reviews, as individual properties vary widely.

When: Book now for travel between Nov. 22, 2008, and Feb. 14, 2009.
