If you want a relaxing, higher-end stay in Mexico but would prefer something with a little more quiet charm than, say, the 300-room resorts laden with swim-up-bar pools criss-crossed by volleyball nets and plastic foam noodles, then have a look at Mexico Boutique Hotels. Its member venues are small, generally with fewer than 50 rooms, and are selectively hand-picked for their unique qualities, setting and service.
Stays at these hotels aren’t cheap, but I’m guessing that your experience will end up being worth the extra pesos. Following are a few of the last-minute specials that I found most appealing on the MBH website. All offers are valid for stays through June 30, 2008.
La Casa Que Canta, Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo: Get 20% off the regular season rates on your room at this Mexican Riviera resort, ranked #1 in Travel + Leisure’s 2007 list of Top 25 Hotels in Mexico and Central and South America
.
Regular rates start at around $465 per night (pre-tax) with a three-night minimum.
El Tamarindo, Costa Alegre: Buy three nights and get the fourth free at this secluded 2-year-old hotel amid a 2,000-acre-plus nature preserve. In addition, you’ll receive free daily breakfast and roundtrip transfers from Manzanillo (ZLO) airport. Rates start at $500 per villa, per night (pre-tax).
Quinta Las Acacias, Guanajuato: By booking via Mexican Botique Hotels rather than directly through this hotel in restored 19th-century digs, you’ll save up to 15%, depending on the type of room you select. For a standard room, the regular rate is $185 and the MBH rate is $180 – insubstantial. But for a presidential suite, you can shave $50 off the regular rate of $345 with the MBH special.
