Megabus to drop Phoenix & Tempe, Arizona

Megabus departs from Los AngelesA reader asked us last week when a Megabus route between Las Vegas and Phoenix would be available. I checked with the Megabus website, and there were no current routes between Nevada and Arizona, although you could take a bus from Los Angeles to Phoenix.

Next, I checked in with my Megabus PR contact and found out that not only is the low-cost bus service not going to add Phoenix as a destination from Las Vegas, but Megabus will cut out all service to and from Phoenix and Tempe, Ariz., as of Jan. 6, 2008. Los Angeles will be the only route affected by this change.

Deal: Note that free Megabus seats are still available. I tested rides between San Diego and Los Angeles on Feb. 9 – 10, when we’ll be having the Los Angeles Times Travel & Adventure Show, and found free seats available in both directions. The cost of booking the round-trip bus service is 50 cents.
