Holy toledo, Batman, $1 bus rides to Las Vegas! Don’t miss Alana Semuels’s article in the Travel News section, “New Megabus service debuts in Los Angeles.” Megabus has been providing cheap bus fares in the UK and the American Midwest, but the west coast additions of Los Angeles, San Diego, Oakland, San Francisco, San Jose, Las Vegas and Phoenix (to come) is a brand new service.
Deals: I just booked a $1 Megabus ride from Las Vegas to Los Angeles that will preclude my sampling of Virgin America’s first class massage seats from LAX to SFO. Kinda like Skybus selling a few $10 seats on their flights, Megabus will sell a few $1 seats on their regular fares. Note: There is a $.50 reservation fee that is added at the time of booking and the regular fares are not listed on the website while $1 fares are available (at least I couldn’t find any and they were not available when I called Megabus).
Bus schedules:
Los Angeles to San Diego
Los Angeles to Las Vegas
Los Angeles to San Francisco
Los Angeles to Oakland
Los Angeles to San Jose
Los Angeles to Phoenix/Tempe, Arizona
Would you ride a $1 bus to Vegas or the Bay Area? If not, why not?
Why Go: You can’t beat a $1.50 bus ride, and their $34.50 Los Angeles to Las Vegas prices aren’t bad, either.
Why Not: Megabus is not able to accommodate bicycles or dogs, with the “exception of trained service animals that allow disabled passengers to perform necessary activities.”
Contact: Megabus, 877-462-6342

According to the L.A. Times 125th Anniversary edition, in 1886: “The price of a train ticket between Kansas City and Los Angeles dropped to $1, sparking a major influx of visitors and newcomers to Southern California.”

Is it true you are discontinuing the Phoenix to LA route? With so many people from California, living here I would think it would be an inexpensive method of travel less the headache of the long drive. Bring it back! :)

I and a friend of mine have planed to do a round trip on the west coast. We have found your company by internet, which offers bus trips for just US$ 1. We would like to know, how we can get these tickets for those busses. Both of us are au pairs and would be very grateful for your help in this case.
Best regards,
