Every winter, more than 1.1 million skiers and snowboarders hit the Mammoth Mountain slopes. If you’re going to be one of those this year, you won’t be limited to traveling by road. See Los Angeles Times staff writer Tiffany Hsu’s article “Horizon Airlines to offer a lift to Mammoth from LAX” for full details of the recently announced addition of daily nonstop flights between LAX and Mammoth Yosemite Airport (MMH).
The one-hour-and-five-minute flight will be offered beginning Dec. 18, 2008, and run through April 12, 2009. But for the best deal, book your trip in January.
Deal: The regular fares from LAX start at $99 (pre-tax) one way, but if you can travel midweek (Sundays to Wednesdays from LAX to MMH, or Tuesdays to Fridays from MMH to LAX), then you can snatch up a $79 one-way fare on flights running Jan. 4-30, 2009. Just search through flights on the Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air website, and look for the “hot deals” option.

Winter is run away. Ski is fun but for anly small group of people.
It is much better to go to the jungle of Ecuador where you can learn, have fun, see animals, and make friends with all age.
http://www.laselvajunglelodge.com/ is a lodge that makes you feel with your family.
Think about it!

It is great if you have lots of money, but it’s a lot more economical to drive if you live in the southern ca area!
For 250 bucks a ticket (round trip and tax) I could almost fill my car up four times, not including splitting gas with friends.
And when you get to the airport, do you need to rent a car?

Hi Tracy — Thanks for your comment, and sorry it has taken me so long to respond to your question. The airport is about five miles from Mammoth Lakes. At the airport, car rentals are available through Enterprise, and taxis and a shuttle service are on hand, though you are advised to pre-arrange pickup. Many of the lodges in town offer hospitality shuttles. For more info on ground transport options, contact the Mammoth Lakes Visitors Bureau on (760) 934-2712.
