A hiker in the Sierra wilderness has found personal papers believed to be those of millionaire adventurer Steve Fossett. Fossett was the first person to sail around the world solo in a balloon (2002) and disappeared Sept. 3, 2007, after taking off in a single-engine plane that left from Nevada. The 63-year-old was declared dead on Feb. 15 by a court in Illinois. The personal papers were found on the western side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
According to KTLA, “The papers, which were tattered and crumpled, appear to be two FAA cards that listed the name Steve Fossett. Officials say the papers had some connection to the state of Illinois. The two cards were found with a small amount of money. Not far away, a sweat jacket.”
Where is Mammoth Lakes? Here is a Google Map (above) of where Mammoth Lakes is located. Click on the image to get to the Google Map and adjust the map as needed. Note that while the hiker who officials say found the papers is from Mammoth Lakes, the papers were found near Minaret Lake.

On the day Fossett disappeared, there was some big fire in North/Central California. He probably was curious to see the high rising smoke column, ventured over, ran out of gas and …
If Fossett crashed and died, it’s so true that no matter how rich or how poor a person is when living, the day he/she dies, he/she has to leave all things material behind.

He might have survived the crash landing of his aircraft but then had to survive the wilderness, possibly meeting his fate there.
To find these documents scattered about seems to suggest that he might have survived a bail out from the aircraft or possibly was chased by something or someone while he was on foot ??? How true that no matter what your status here on this earth, you cannot take it with you when you are gone!
But, Steve Fossett lived LARGE and that will be his legacy ………..
He has taken that last flight West.

The case looked fishily spooky after a second read. The documents are about 6 inches square. The probability of finding them around Mammoth lakes is 0.00000000000000000000217, much much less then the odd of winning California Lottery.
1. If Fossett was dead, his lost soul must have led the hiker to the documents.
2. Or Fossett left the documents for the hiker to believe that he’s alive.
Who is the hiker anyway?

That’s interesting about the fire, if a child were to go missing from your backyard and you see a neihbors house on fire, wouldn’t that be the first place you look?

If this is only 90 miles away from where he took off, was it not searched then? They did not find his body in the badly burned wreckage? What? Maybe a bailout? Hmmm!.!.!
