In the summertime months, a vacation in Mammoth Lakes in the Eastern High Sierra can keep you very active, if you’d like to be, with ample opportunities to hike, mountain bike and kayak. But if you’d like your getaway to involve at least a little letting-loose, time your trip to coincide with one of Mammoth’s festivals. Following are two fun ones, a blues fest and a fishing fest, that you might want to — for lack of a better word — catch.
Festival of Beers & Bluesapalooza: Over 50 breweries from all over California and the U.S. will be at this beer blowout, and the crowd will be serenaded by blues, rock and bottleneck slide. The Friday night headliner is Coco Montoya.
When: Aug. 1-2, 2008
Cost: Ticket prices range from $25 to $78, depending on what package you prefer; purchase via the website.

Troutstock: Do you love trout? If so, this “unprecedented festival of all things trout” is tailor-made for you (but even if you’re not an angler, there should be plenty to keep you entertained). Scheduled events include a tagged-trout competition (the only activity that is not free at this festival), barbecued grub, live entertainment, fly casting demonstrations, games and lots of activities for kids.
When: Aug. 28-Sept. 1, 2008
