It’ll be a very white Christmas at Mammoth Mountain, with a major storm hitting tonight (Dec. 24) and expected to continue into Christmas Day.
Moderate temperatures in the 20s kept skiers on the hill most of the day today, though visibility was limited.
It is shaping us as a strong early winter for the resort, five hours from Los Angeles. Snow bases are running 46 inches to 80 inches up and down the mountain, with almost 2 feet of new snow predicted for Thursday.
The resort was offering this Christmas Day forecast:
“Snow. Temperature falling to around 6 by 5 p.m. Very windy, with a west wind 35 to 40 mph decreasing to between 25 and 30 mph. Winds could gust as high as 60 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 7 to 11 inches possible.”
