Mammoth: Christmas week on the slopes with ski-and-stay offer

Mammoth Mountain Ski Area

If a Christmas week on the slopes sounds like the best kind of goodie that could drop down your chimney, then consider Mammoth Mountain. Not only are there direct flights to the area from Los Angeles (LAX) starting this winter, but the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area hotels are offering a good ski-and-stay package for families who want more than just a couple of days of playing in the snow.

Deal: For the “Christmas on Us” package, book four nights’ accommodation and four lift tickets and receive a fifth night’s lodging free as well as a Christmas Day of free skiing. This offer is valid only for arrivals on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008.

Tested: I checked for availability for two adults and two children, and found options at Mammoth Mountain Inn, Juniper Springs Resort, Tamarack Lodge and The Village Lodge — the least expensive option being a two-double-bed standard room at Mammoth Mountain Inn for $1,988 (pretax); this price includes daily lift tickets for all. A one-bedroom condo plus lift tickets for a family of four at Juniper Springs Resort will set you back $2,788 (pretax).

Connect/disconnect: If you want to stay connected to the wired world, stay at the Mammoth Mountain Inn or The Village Lodge, which offer wireless Internet for those paying the optional resort fee of $20 per night. The fee also covers local phone calls, fax and copy services, in-room coffee and tea, DVD Movie/Game rental, use of a fitness room, ski and snowboard storage, and more.
