Roller coaster riders will fly through a series of special effects tunnels when X2 reopens at Six Flags Magic Mountain in summer 2008.
Still in the conceptual design stage, the “ominous” fly-throughs are part of the Valencia amusement park’s $10-million overhaul of the flawed but breathtaking prototype coaster with rotating 360-degree seats.
Placed at two to four straightaway locations along the 3,600-foot-long track, the themed tunnels will feature lights, sound and fog.
Constructed of a breathable canvas tarp designed to withstand sun, rain and wind, the spider web-like canopies with lighted beacon tips are evocative of the iconic Denver International Airport terminal.

The obvious question: What can you possibly see at 75 mph?
Still, I remain hopeful the experience will exceed my low expectations.

I think this will be really cool! In 5th grade I did a project where I designed my own roller coaster and one of the elements in it was a tunnel with a lazer lights show inside. Now, five years later, its awesome to see my dreams come true!!

Seems that just a couple of tunnels still won’t be enough to cover up the X-mess. Magic Mountain execs should do the right thing and buy the whole rug!
