Travel + Leisure Golf lists Top 10 golf resorts in the U.S.; stay & play deals at Pebble Beach Resorts

Travel & Leisure Golf: World’s Best Golf Resorts

Travel + Leisure Golf magazine’s September/October issue will feature the 2008 world’s best golf resorts, including another list of Top 10 U.S. golf resorts for 2008. Several West Coast golf resorts made the the U.S. list, but Pebble Beach Resorts was the only resort in the Top 10 from California (coming in at No. 3). I thought I’d look up some deals so budget-conscious golf travelers can get more value for their dollars when heading up to Pebble Beach.

Deals: There is a generous assortment of special stay & play packages to choose from for the Lodge at Pebble Beach, the Inn at Spanish Bay and Casa Palmero. The Inn at Spanish Bay has the most affordable rack rates of the three resorts, starting at $580 per night for a Garden View room. Special winter rates start at $470 per night Nov. 23-March 31, 2009, with weekday specials lowered to $325 per night Sundays through Thursdays during Dec. 14, 2008–Jan. 7, 2009. You can also get a fourth night free under a different deal with the Inn at Spanish Bay.

For golfers, I like the “Stay & Play” package at the Lodge at Pebble Beach. Stay two nights at the Lodge plus play two rounds of golf (one at Pebble Beach Golf Links and another at the Links at Spanish Bay or Spyglass Hill golf course) for $2,000, or $2,660 for two golfers. Each additional night is 50% off when you extend your stay. Valid Nov. 23, 2008–March 31, 2009.

Caveat: Room rates quoted do not include tax. All special offers are based on availability, and some blackout dates apply.

I didn’t see Texas on the list! There are incredible resorts opening up in the Hill Country area. The newest will be the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa opening in the spring of 2010. The buzz is building quickly about this property due to the recent golf announcement of the Valero Texas Open which will change venues in 2010 to the new TPC San Antonio course located at the resort – hopefully we will bring in some really big golfers too! I for one am happy just to have a new spot for friends and family to stay when visiting – it’s connected to a bird sanctuary and surrounded by rolling hills so the views will be incredible. I thought I’d share!
