Los Angeles: Relative freedom at Hotel Angeleno

Happy Thanksgiving! The holiday season has begun. In the coming weeks, you can look forward to fine foods, endless merriment and enlightening conversations with loved ones whom you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing all year. Life is grand…or is it?

If what you really want to do at the family holiday dinner is chuck a turkey leg across the table at the next person who pushes your political buttons or asks when you’re going to start having babies, then maybe it’s a sign that you need a break: a serious overnight getaway with a dash of talk therapy. Hotel Angeleno, a Joie de Vivre hotel in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles, aims to help.

Deal: The “It’s All Relative” package includes the following, for rates starting at $159 per night (pre-tax): a night’s accommodation, a stiff drink upon check-in, a pie to leave with (”to take to the family holiday party”) and, most amusingly, access to an on-call therapist. Note that face time with the therapist is not included; if you actually want to take them up on the counseling session, you’ll have to shell out $200 per hour.

As for the hotel part of the deal, yes, there’s availability tonight. The “best available” rate as booked through the website is $199 per night (pre-tax) for a room with one king bed. Booking the package (through this page; scroll to the bottom), you’ll pay just $159 (pre-tax).
