Legoland’s new building block: Sea Life aquarium

Sea Life AquariumLegoland plans to add a 36,000-square-foot Sea Life aquarium next to its Carlsbad, California, front gate in summer 2008, according to North County Times.

Merlin Entertainments Group, Legoland’s parent company, operates more than two-dozen Sea Life aquariums worldwide, including one in partnership with Disneyland Paris.

Merlin’s CEO told Theme Park Insider last year he hoped to develop the company’s four Legolands into “mini-Disney Worlds,” turning the day-trip kiddie parks into multi-day resort destinations.

Aquarium plans call for a two-story ocean tank centerpiece; smaller stingray, sea horse and jellyfish exhibits; as well as a restaurant, theater and classroom. (Click here for video)

The separate-admission Sea Life center would face stiff competition from La Jolla’s Scripps aquarium to the south and Long Beach’s Aquarium of the Pacific to the north.

Does Southern California really need another aquarium?

This place was just a waste of waiting in line, and money. Want your kids to have a better educational experience or just a good experience plain and simple. Don’t take them here. You will get more value for your money at Birch Aquarium or even Sea World.

This was a great place for my kids to see and interact with the fish and sea animals. With all the places for them to crawl around and see the aquariums from different angles, I highly recommend it! The restaurant is tasty too.
