Legoland swears in mini-Barack Obama in mock inauguration

A 4-inch-tall Barack Obama rendered in Lego bricks will be sworn in as plastic president before more than 1,000 miniature-molded dignitaries at Legoland California’s inaugural pre-enactment.

Beginning today, the 56th presidential inauguration will be replicated on the steps of the United States Capitol in the Miniland version of Washington, D.C., at the Carlsbad theme park.

President-elect Obama and his family along with Vice President-elect Joseph Biden and his wife will be replicated as mini-figures in Lego bricks.

Invited dignitaries include Lego versions of President George W. Bush and first lady Laura Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Lynne Cheney, former President George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).

Is the judge swearing in Obama giving me the middle finger?

  2. SG Says:

lego Barack looks like Johnny 5

  3. Denis Says:

One small correction- the Lego figures are not “molded figures”- they are each individually made out of Lego bricks, as can be seen in the Obama figure. It took a lot of man-hours to make all those figures!

  4. Martin Says:

Plastic toys are a serious environmental problem. Plastics do not biodegrade. Lego could have sent someone out to the Pacific Gyre to fish out a discarded Lando Calrissian doll that some LA kid threw away in the 80’s.

  5. Chris Says:

Looks great to me. Great work Lego people.

  6. joerg Says:

pic#01: Watch out, Obama! There’s a giant Ahmadinejad right behind you!

  7. Jeremy Says:

Really, Martin? That’s what you had to contribute? Wow. Unless Lando was made out of Lego, your diatribe has no place here.

    Kudos, Lego!

  8. Bethie Says:

What’s with the one guy on the right with the eyes? Are those glasses? Hmm.

I’m almost 24 years old, and I still would love to visit this Legoland, CA.

    Sad? Maybe… but somehow I doubt I’m alone! :P

  14. indoor antenna Says:

    Wow. Just wow.

Although I think the people would have looked better with custom, painted faces that come standard with all the LEGO people, it is still very impressive! I wouldn’t mind having a job like that one!

  15. Sonia Says:

Wow!!!! what a creative way to look at the inauguration. This was a very historical event, and I’m happy to see it captured even in lego lingo. Way to go legoland owners and staff. I’m sure our new wonderful President will come and visit at some point during his term. He rocks!!!! He’s for the people and by the people.
