The TravelZoo Newsflash pointed us to a fantastic deal in Las Vegas this weekend. Rooms at the MGM Grand have been dropped more than 50%. Get a room for $99 tonight and tomorrow night (pre-tax). Rooms on New Year’s Eve are only $229 (pre-tax). Does that seem high to you for a standard room on the Strip? Considering Las Vegas has been named Yahoo Travel’s No. 1 destination for New Year’s Eve this year, it’s a deal.
Deal: The total cost for a room at the MGM Grand for three nights (Dec. 29-Jan. 1) is $564, including taxes. That is $99 for Saturday night, $189 for Sunday and $229 for New Year’s Eve. Compare it with room rates for the following Vegas casino resorts via Vegas.com. [UPDATE: I got an e-mail from MGM Grand with even lower rates. Use promo code 1NB144 to get that rate dropped to $89 for tonight. Prices are higher on this code for Sunday and Monday.]
Strip room rates for Dec. 31, 2007 (pre-tax):
Mandalay Bay: $380
Luxor: $310
Flamingo: $299
Stratosphere: $236
Tropicana: $219
Tip: The lowest priced non-Strip room that I’d consider staying at on New Year’s Eve (based on Vegas.com’s availability) was the Silverton, $162 (pre-tax). It’s a great off-Strip hotel with a lodge feel, stunning aquarium, cheap table games and good bar food at the Mermaid Lounge next to the aquarium. They will have shuttles going to the Strip until 5 p.m., but guests will have to get back to the hotel themselves.
