Last minute: singles weekender on Catalina Island

Fun in the Sun on Catalina Island

Catalina Island will be a hopping spot for singles this weekend, Sept. 12-14, 2008, thanks to the Sierra Club. At Emerald Bay Camp, on Catalina, join nearly 300 other aficionados of the great outdoors for “Fun in the Sun 2008,” which promises an enjoyable and relaxing itinerary including hiking, volleyball, yoga, swimming, kayaking and plenty of socializing.

The annual weekend-long getaway is organized by the 20s & 30s singles section of Sierra Club’s Angeles chapter, but anyone 21 and older is invited to attend. As of this morning, there were several spots remaining. You don’t have to be a Sierra Club member to join the trip, though members do get a discount (see below).

When: Friday-Sunday, Sept. 12-14, 2008. The boats chartered by the club will depart from two points (Marina del Rey and Long Beach) early Friday morning and return on Sunday evening.

Cost: For platform-tent accommodations, the trip costs $225 per person for Sierra Club members, $250 for nonmembers. If you’d prefer to sleep in a cabin, the cost is $245 for members, $270 for nonmembers. The fee includes your round-trip boat journey to Catalina, camp fees, meals from Friday evening to Sunday lunch, guided activities, dance instruction, hot showers and more. Find booking details on the event page of the chapter’s website.

Tip: If you are not a Sierra Club member, join via the Sierra Club website for $25, which gets you the discounted member price for the trip, a one-year membership and a free rucksack.
