Last chance to catch Disney parade

Pixar Play ParadeThis weekend marks the final curtain for the unobjectionable though unmemorable Block Party Bash parade at Disney’s California Adventure.

After Jan. 6, 2008, Block Party Bash will be boxed up and shipped to Orlando, Fla., where it will be repackaged as a “brand new” parade at the recently renamed Disney’s Hollywood Studios (formerly Disney-MGM Studios).

Block Party’s demise makes way for the debut of the Pixar Play Parade at California Adventure on March 14, 2008.

The new parade, starring characters from all the Pixar movies from “Toy Story” to “Ratatouille,” features dancers and bungee-bound acrobats performing to an original soundtrack. Concept art shows a bicycle-powered calliope/drum parade float with “Monsters Inc.” characters Sulley and Mike on board. Wet zones along the parade route promise “interactive surprises.”

In a previous post, I caught some heat for bashing the Bash parade. But history shows that Disney tends to embrace successes (Electrical Parade) and jettison failures (Light Magic Parade). Stuck in the mediocre middle, Block Party Bash will soon be forgotten in Anaheim — fated neither fondly nor grudgingly to the annals of Yesterland.
