Here’s the bad news first. We might start to see airfare prices go back up. According to Yapta, there are indications that some areas of the travel industry are expecting to rebound, including hotel prices in Vegas. The good news is that you can still find some value in rushing off for a quick Vegas getaway during Memorial Day weekend (May 22-25). But look out — you’ll be hard-pressed to find a decent room under $200 Saturday night.
Las Vegas Memorial Day weekend deals:
Green Valley Ranch $80/night Memorial Day weekend. I was checking out the new CheapoStay website and was shocked to find this low rate. CheapoStay had an exclusive deal with an automatic 15% off. The total hotel bill for a standard room at Green Valley Ranch (pictured), May 22-25, was $272.
Fly Back on Us from New York-New York. Stay at New York-New York at least three nights through May 31, 2009, and for your second trip back to NY-NY, receive a $300 flight credit and one free night for a return visit June 1 through Aug. 31, 2009. Room rates start at $75 per night but on Memorial Day weekend they’ll start at $160 per night ($310 on Saturday). A visit Friday to Monday would cost $696 just for the the hotel. Tip: If you can delay your weekend getaway until Sunday-Wednesday the cost drops to $358. Note: Unlike many fly-back certificates where you have to use the hotel’s travel agency, this time you don’t. A two-night minimum stay is required on your return trip. Free-night letter and flight certificate will be given at check-in. The free night will be taken off the lowest-rated night. Hotels.com offering 50% off Memorial Day weekend plus $50 prepaid MasterCard. When I looked at the Memorial Day sale page, there were slim pickins for Vegas. I did find the South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa for an average of $130 per night Friday to Monday. The same hotel, on the same dates, would’ve been an average nightly rate of $209 if booked on Vegas.com (they had only professional suites available). The $130 per night room rate was available by booking directly with the hotel, but then you wouldn’t have received the $50 gift card. So, in this case, booking through Hotels.com returned good value.
Have to stay center Strip but paying $492/night for Caesars is out of the question? Try Treasure Island. Vegas.com has prices for Treasure Island at $163 per night (pretax) while the lowest average rates for other Center Strip hotels are Bellagio ($352), Wynn and Encore ($385) and Caesars ($492). If you prefer the Mirage to TI, you’ll be in for $266/night.
