Las Vegas, California sites earn Mobil Five Stars

The West was a winner in Mobil Five-Star Awards announced Thursday. Steve Wynn’s Las Vegas properties hit a triple, and two California restaurants rose to the top rating.

Wynn’s Tower Suites at Wynn Las Vegas, Alex restaurant and the Spa at Wynn Las Vegas all are Five Stars for 2009. With the Skylofts at MGM Grand and Joe Robuchon restaurant, Sin City, which just three years ago had no Five Stars, now has five.

Credit big service improvements, said Shane O’Flaherty, president and chief executive of Chicago-based Mobil Travel Guide, which inspects the properties and bestows the stars. Las Vegas has “some of the most spectacular restaurants in the country,” he said.

As for Wynn’s Tower Suites, O’Flaherty said it was “absolutely remarkable” that such a large hotel could maintain top-tier service.

In Southern California, both the new Five-Star restaurants are at hotels:  the Addison (pictured) at the Grand Del Mar in Carmel Valley and the Studio at the Montage in Laguna Beach. Spas at the Montage and St. Regis Monarch Beach in Dana Point also gained their fifth stars.
