Lake Tahoe: fun times for families at Squaw Valley

Cable Car to High Camp, North Lake Tahoe, California

The fun quotient may be high when the snow is on in Lake Tahoe, California, but the sun-shining summertime wins when it comes to the sheer variety of family-friendly activities on offer, catering to all ages and tastes.

And if your traveling crew includes those of a young age with a heavy taste for capital-P Play, you might find the “Family Fun in the Sun” package by the Village at Squaw Valley, in North Tahoe, a choice that meets with approval. It can serve as a ready-made, yet action-packed, short vacation.

Deal: The two-night package costs $664.70 total ($332.35 per adult; pre-tax), based on a family of four with two adults and two children under 12 years old. You get a stay in a two-bedroom condo; plus, per reservation, you’ll get four passes for each of the following nearby activities: a ride on the Cable Car, which ascends 2,000 feet to High Camp; entry to the High Camp Swimming Lagoon; and a round of 18-hole mini-golf. You also get two passes for the Skyjump Bungee Trampoline and an amenity package that includes an area hiking guide, a cooler lunch bag, snacks and sunscreen.

When: This offer is valid now through Sept. 14, 2008.

Tips: If your stay includes a Thursday night, catch the free Thursday night movie that screens in the Village, a lively center that’ll be just outside your condo. Alternatively, or in addition, you could balance out all of the aforementioned active activity with some culture. The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival runs July 12- Aug. 17, 2008.

Connect/disconnect: The rooms at the Village at Squaw Valley are equipped with free Wi-Fi.

Squaw Valley is a great place for a summer family vacation. Awesome views, tons of things to do and keep you busy, and Lake Tahoe a couple of minutes away. Stay an extra day or mark the calendar to return!
