If you’re planning on skiing or snowboarding Tahoe for multiple days this winter, it will be worth your while to plan ahead, especially if you’re a fan of one of the local favorites, Kirkwood, 30 miles south of Lake Tahoe. You have until tomorrow, July 8, 2008, at midnight, to secure some phenomenal pricing on season passes.
Don’t drag your feet. According to the resort’s marketing communications manager, Daniel Pistoresi, season pass prices will go up $30 after tomorrow; at the end of September, prices will increase again.
Deal: Different types of 2008-09 season passes are available; what’s right for you depends on how often you’ll hit the slopes and on what days. The best value I’m seeing is the “6Wood” pass for $229 (including taxes), valid every day but Saturdays and holidays. If those restrictions are too restricting for you, the “7Wood” pass, for $369, is valid seven days a week but excludes holidays, and the “Unlimited” pass, for $499, has no restrictions.
But here’s why I like the “6wood” deal. All-day lift tickets last year were in the $69-$72 range; you can likely expect an increase for winter 2008-09. That means the $229 pass will just about pay for itself in a mere three days. If you can spend a week in Tahoe, use that ski-free Saturday to recoup, get a massage or venture into town to shop and dine.
