With all this talk of an economic downturn, and Vegas properties either suspending construction (Echelon) or filing for bankruptcy protection (Lake Las Vegas), a traveler would expect hotel prices to drop and great deals to be found. I had a look at a few travel booking sites to see what hotel rates are over the Labor Day weekend (all prices are pre-tax unless otherwise noted).
Vegas.com | You can shop for rooms across the pricing gamut on this do-it-all website, but after punching in the dates and hitting “sort by rating,” I quickly found that the lowest average rate for a room at Wynn or Caesars ran over $400 per night, while rooms at the Palazzo are in the $300 per night range. Both the Venetian and the Bellagio are over $250 per night but over at the Trump Tower, you can get a suite for an average of $206 per night. Look at the “All Available Hotels” sidebar to find hotels with rooms less than $100 per night over the holiday weekend.
Travel Worm | Is a great resource for budget travelers. If you like staying downtown, check out their 50% off deal for the Plaza Hotel & Casino next to Fremont Street. They’ve got an average nightly rate of $39, down from $79 per night. (If you think in the style range of Motel 6 you won’t be shocked.) On the south end of the Strip, Travel Worm had rooms at the South Point for $94 per night while Vegas.com’s rate was $111. Shop around and compare to find the right hotel for you.
Travelzoo | This week, Travelzoo pointed us to a $69-a-night deal at the MGM Grand that included a $35 dining credit, in-room continental breakfast for two, plus other spa coupons and cheap upgrade opportunities. Caveat: You had to travel before or after Labor Day weekend. If you wanted to stay during Labor Day weekend, the price came to $447 for all three nights, pre-tax.
Orbitz | Orbitz is known for having great flight and hotel deals. I found a good package that included flights for two between Burbank (BUR) and Las Vegas (LAS) on JetBlue plus three nights at the Luxor for $484 per person, based on double occupancy and included taxes. To book a similar package through the Luxor website and flying with Southwest, the cost would be $508 per person after taxes.
