Should Mardi Gras be a national holiday? Can travel be cool with your mother-in-law?
These are the issues discussed at Travelingmamas.com, a smart and interesting voice in the blogosphere with tips and destinations for traveling with children. Writers include CajunMama, DesertMama, and Jennifer Miner, a.k.a. MudslideMama, who swung by the L.A. Travel Show to say hi. MudslideMama is also Twittering the show.
Alexandra Picavet, who’s in public affairs at Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park, stepped away from her booth to stop by and tell us a bunch of cool things that are happening in national parks.
For example, she reminded us that at Channel Islands National Park–much of which is under water–there’s a cool summertime program where visitors get to explore the ocean without getting wet.
A park ranger dives with a special mask that includes a microphone and a video camera. As he treks around the kelp beds, visitors watch via TV monitor s on Anacapa Island (one of the Channel Islands) or at the visitor center in Ventura to see sea cucumbers, abalone, sea urchins and other marine life.
The video “hike” is presented at 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays. Check the park’s website for more information.
