For those who appreciate a good rest poolside in the sunshine, now is a great time to head out to Palm Springs and surrounds. With temperatures these days there in the 90s on up to 100 degrees, the desert region is starting to quiet down for the summer.
When the days are hot, it’s hard to go wrong at La Quinta Resort and Club (a 30-minute drive southeast of Palm Springs), whose amenities galore include 41 pools. The next few weeks are ideal for taking advantage of the fun package detailed below, before July and August begin scorching even the lizards among us.
Deal: The “Play It Your Way” package features playing and relaxing, and drinking and dining. For $299 per night (pre-tax), you get a standard room and the following:
> Unlimited golf at one of four resort and PGA West courses
> One spa treatment of choice daily per room per night from a limited spa menu that includes facials and massages.
> Meals: Either breakfast and dinner or lunch and dinner daily for your party (up to two adults, and if applicable, up to two kids) at the resort or golf course restaurants. What’s more? Tips are included.
> A cocktail hour that includes beer, wine and margaritas
> Unlimited tennis and basketball
> Internet access, self-parking, fitness center use and local calls
The price tag on this package is $299 per night (pre-tax). Even if you don’t golf but take advantage of the rest of the perks, this is a great deal. But if you do golf, given that it’s summer in the desert, you’d do well to hit the links early. The La Quinta Mountain Course is open daily at 6 a.m. (and closes at 6 p.m.).
When: Valid for stays now through Sept. 30, 2009.
Tested: Online, I found a one-night stay at the end of June for the $299 rate, which comes to $338 after taxes.
Contact: La Quinta Resort, (800) 598-3828
[For the record: The original post incorrectly stated that a $27 per night resort charge was NOT included in the package. We have since learned that it is indeed included.]

As a quick note: The package includes the $27 resort fee, so it will not be added to the total at the end of your stay.

Thank you for the clarification. When I tested this package, the reservations page (reached via a link on the hotel’s website following details on this particular package) indicated an additional $27 resort charge. However, your comment and a call to the hotel confirm that the charge IS included. The post has been adjusted accordingly.
Thanks again,
Susan Derby
