Spend some of that extra daylight in La Jolla

Grande Colonial Hotel, La Jolla

What are you going to do with that extra hour of sunlight now that you’ve got it? How about some leisurely strolling and sunning along one of Southern California’s loveliest coastal stretches?

Northern San Diego County’s affluent scenic pocket of La Jolla is what I’m suggesting, it being a prime spot for relaxing, boutique shopping and activities like diving, kayaking and golfing. As you might expect, the sunsets — which, remember, will now clock in a tad later — are also spectacular.

As for lodging, here’s a tempting package from a well-reputed place, ranked No. 3 on TripAdvisor’s popularity index.

Deal: Grande Colonial Hotel, one block from the ocean, has an “Economy Recovery Package” on offer: For $469, pre-tax, you receive two nights in an ocean-view junior suite and a $100 credit for its on-site Nine-Ten restaurant.

Alternatively, for $675, pre-tax, for a two-night stay, you’ll get a junior suite in the hotel’s adjacent Little Hotel by the Sea and the same $100 dining credit, as well as these complementary inclusions: breakfast for two each morning, valet parking, in-room refreshments, domestic phone calls and express check-in and check-out.

Connect/disconnect: Rooms are equipped with complementary high-speed wired and wireless Internet.

I visited La Jolla over the Christmas holiday. It was fantastic.

Great idea! La Jolla is always a great getaway. Head over to the Wind & Sea Beach for a beautiful stroll, and if you are there on a Sunday check out the farmers market (over 75 vendors) located at La Jolla Elementary School off Girard Street.
