It’s that time of year again — join the masses for some good-time fun at the L.A. County Fair. The long-running event will offer its usual spectrum of monster trucks, animals, fireworks, R&B and country bands and food fit for stomachs of steel (deep-fried White Castle burger, anyone?).

But for those not keen on typical fairground fare and activities, how do tequila seminars, a Karaokefest, Chinese acrobats, tiramisu gelato, red velvet cupcakes and a regularly erupting volcano sound? You’ll find all this and much more on the fair’s dizzyingly full schedule of events.
You have plenty of time to experience it. The fair runs Wednesdays through Sundays, from Friday, Sept. 5, to Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008. Regular admission is $17/$12 weekends/weekdays for those 13 and older; $12/$7 weekends/weekdays for children 6 to 12 years old; kids 5 and under are free.
Deal: If you’re looking for a deal on tickets, Friday is your day. This Friday, for opening day, tickets will cost just $1 per person if you enter before 5 p.m. And for all Fridays during the run of the fair, children 6 to 12 are admitted free.

The discounted day for seniors (60 and older) is Wednesday, with tickets at $6. Admissions info can be found on the LA County Fair website: http://www.lacountyfair.com.

I have a friend who wants to come, but she has “bad” knees. She can walk a few hours, then needs to rest. Do you have “Rest Areas” on the fair grounds, where a person can go and nap for an hour or so?

Hi Anonymous and Bradley,
Thanks for your comments. Sept. 5 this year is indeed a Saturday, but the above blog post was published on Sept. 3, 2008, about the 2008 fair.
The 2009 fair begins on Saturday, Sept. 5. Keep watching our blog — I’m sure we’ll have more to say about this year’s fair soon.
