Kimpton Hotels offers April tax relief

Twenty dollar bill

In these number-crunching, brow-furrowing days preceding April 15th, are you reluctant to throw even one more cent into government coffers? If you can take a well-deserved getaway this tax season, maybe it’ll feel good to let someone else pick up the tax tab for once. Kimpton is offering.

Deal: Book the “Sweet Tax Relief Package” at a participating Kimpton hotel and you’ll get a break on room tax — the hotel will pay it for you. In addition, you’ll receive a bag of appropriately themed candy (i.e., Payday, 100 Grand, Sugar Daddy), a tax-free dining experience at an adjacent Kimpton’s restaurant, and, if available, a late 2 p.m. check-out time. There is no minimum stay.

The special is available at a whole host of Kimpton sites, including 11 throughout California and hotels in Aspen, Colo.; Miami, Chicago, New York City and Washington, D.C.

Caveat: The restaurant part of the deal is not valid at the following eateries: Ozumo or Café de la Presse in San Francisco, and Bistro Bis in Washington, D.C.

Tested: I wondered about FireSky Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, Ariz., and found a room there for $249 per night total, with this package. Getting the tax waived represented a savings of about $30 per night. At this hotel, amenities for all guests include daily newspaper delivery, an evening wine reception, 24-hour access to the fitness room and free WiFi.
