Nothing like a little coffee talk first thing in the morning. Read on for the scoops on Starbucks, Olympics transport and a gargantuan maize-plant maze.
Coffee news | If you’re fueled by Starbucks in daily life and on the road, perhaps you’ve been preparing yourself for withdrawals ever since the java giant announced earlier this month that 600 stores will close; that includes 88 in California. Now you can find out if your go-to will be affected with this handy list of the California closures as well as a map. If you’re road-tripping, you’ll soon find shut shops from Las Vegas to Louisville, Kentucky. (On a side note, have you tried the chain’s new sorbetto drink?)
Olympics news | Beijing’s new subway and train lines should be up and running by this Sunday or Monday. A vehicle-reduction plan on the roads is also scheduled to get underway. Read “New subway, rail lines to open for Beijing Games.” For more on China as it has been leading up to, for a long while now, the Olympics, see “Countdown to ’08 Beijing Olympics.”
England | The Telegraph (UK) reports an 18-acre Statue of Liberty maze that has been unveiled on a field in Yorkshire, in northern England. Made of maize plants, it’s actually much longer than New York City’s Ms. Liberty is high. It opens to visitors this weekend.
