Ireland summertime B&B + car package

Waterford Crystal factoryDeals to Europe are rare in summer, but here’s an airfare, car rental and hotel package to Ireland that just might fit the bill.

The deal: Los Angeles travelers receive round-trip airfare to Dublin or Shannon, one night’s stay at a hotel, five nights at Irish farmhouse bed-and-breakfasts (there are 450 to choose from) and a rental car with unlimited mileage. The package is $1,099 in May, June, September and October and $1,199 in July and August. All rates are per person and based on double occupancy.

What’s included? The Emerald Package includes a full Irish breakfast daily and offers a complimentary tour of the Waterford Crystal factory (pictured, photo by Richard Derk / LAT) in Waterford.

Other options: Travelers can upgrade to an expanded list of town and country B&Bs — adding 1,400 additional facilities with private bath — starting at $99. They also have the option of spending one night at an Irish castle, starting at $99.

Info: Call Sceptre Tours at (800) 221-0924. The special is based on availability and does not include tax.

This is a GREAT deal! A friend and I went on a similar trip in 2001, SIX YEARS ago, in the fall, for $895 (air fare, car rental and B&B stays inclusive). To go in the summer for just a little more money is a tremendous deal. The experience of driving Ireland and making your own arrangements at prepaid B&Bs (you pick out of a book, and call ahead to your chosen place) is wonderful. Highly recommend this trip and these arrangements!
