iPod and iPhone connectivity coming on United Airlines

United Airlines ipod, iphone connectivity
Even though we’re still reeling from the thought of having to pay $15 for a checked bag when flying on United Airlines, it is a small breath of fresh air that United is adding in-flight entertainment systems that will include iPod and iPhone connectivity.

Don’t get excited about talking on your iPhone just yet, the connectivity they are referring to is watching or listening to your personal content via your iPod and iPhone on their 15.4-inch televisions. Even better, you’ll be able to charge your device at the same time. The first flight this will take place on is today, Washington, D.C., to Zurich, Switzerland, on United flight 936, and it will continue on transatlantic routes.

Now for the bad news. I don’t think this is coming to domestic economy travel anytime soon. The press release states that “United’s entire fleet of international, widebody aircraft are being reconfigured over the next two years with lie-flat seats, on-demand entertainment, and iPod and iPhone connectivity in first and business class.”

So, save those frequent flier miles so you can upgrade on your next international trip.
