How hot are BedandBreakfast.com’s Mexico deals?

Puerto Vallarta, MexicoIn the wee early hours of this morning, I received a BedandBreakfast.com Hot Deals newsletter. The deals I’m seeing to Mexico are hot — not smoking hot, but good off-season prices nonetheless.

I picked a couple of the deals to tell you about. To book either of the following (which have limited availability, warns the promo page), call the hotel directly and mention the “BedandBreakfast.com Hot Deal.” If you miss the boat, however, chances are that the hotel you’re interested in has some specials of its own going (Villa Bella, below, does).

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico: Book a room at Villa Bella Bed & Breakfast Inn this month to receive a substantial discount for four-night-minimum stays now through Oct. 31, 2008.

For $126 per night (pre-tax), you get, in addition to your room, a full breakfast, airport pickup, a welcome cocktail and a free upgrade upon check-in.

Deal or no deal? The promotion says this is a 30% discount off regular room rates of $180 per night. If you book through the hotel online, however, you can get the same room-plus-extras for as low as $145 per night (depending on your dates) for various type suites, with a three-night minimum. For four nights’ lodging, the BedandBreakfast deal is good. But if you want three nights instead of four, then you’re not faring too badly by using the hotel’s own promotion. Guanajuato, Mexico: At Casa Estrella de la Valenciana, from now through June 30, 2008, stay two nights and get a third night free. The regular price for a standard room is $190 per night (pre-tax).

Deal or no deal? I didn’t see any other hotel-run specials on the hotel’s website, and midweek rooms start at $185. If you can stay three nights then, yes, it seems the BedandBreakfast.com deal is the way to go. Contact: Casa Estrella de la Valenciana, (866) 983-8844

Note about my reference to “off-season” in the first paragraph: My new “Traveler’s Tool Kit: Mexico and Central America” guidebook says that Guanajuato and other places in the country’s colonial center boast “an ‘eternal spring’ climate, so while summers are a bit hotter, there’s no bad time of year to avoid.”
