Hotels.com Labor Day sale: 30% off and gas money

Sheraton Anaheim Hotel

If you’re considering a Labor Day weekend getaway and haven’t booked anything yet, browse through the offerings on Hotels.com. The booking site is offering incentives to travel over the holiday weekend with discounts at hotels in California, throughout the U.S. and beyond.

Deal: See the Hotels.com Labor Day promotion page for venues where you’ll be able to apply a discount of 30% off during Labor Day weekend. In California, hotels under this promotion can be found in Anaheim, Lake Tahoe, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco. In addition, if you’re staying three nights or more, enter code “GAS50″ upon booking, and you’ll receive a prepaid MasterCard for $50 in the mail after your stay.

When: Book by Aug. 29 for stays between Aug. 29 and Sept. 2, 2008.

Tested: Though the promotion page advertises the “30% off” special as if it were a discount applied to every hotel accessible from that page, you’ll have to peer closely when testing out your hotel of interest. Some of the hotels are offering around 30% off their rack rates for the entire Labor Day weekend, whether you stay one night or three, while at other hotels the discount is applicable only for three-night-minimum stays. For example, at Sportsmen’s Lodge in Los Angeles, you get 15% off a two-night stay, 20% off a three-night stay and 30% off a four-night stay.

I tested the Sheraton Anaheim Hotel, and came up with a rate of $131.25 per night (pre-tax) for a standard double. The regular rack rate for those nights is $175. Booking directly through the hotel for these dates, you’d pay this rack rate, $175 per night, and you’d miss out on the gas money.
